113 Arrested as Edo Police Lead Joint Raid on Kidnappers’ Hideouts

Security operatives in Edo State have arrested 113 suspected kidnappers following a coordinated early-morning operation in Agbede and Iruekpen.

The raids, carried out around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, were led by the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, and targeted settlements locally known as “zangos,” where ransom payments were allegedly received and coordinated.

Details of the operation was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem on Thursday in Benin.

Ikoedem said te intelligence-led operation involved officers of the Nigeria Police Force, alongside personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as vigilante groups and local hunters.

According to the police spokesman, credible information revealed that the locations were being used as meeting points for kidnappers and their collaborators to regroup and blend into surrounding communities after collecting ransom.

Confirming the development, the Commissioner of Police said the Command would sustain its offensive against kidnapping networks.

“The Command’s onslaught against kidnapping organised networks will remain relentless and uncompromising,” he said.

“The Police will not only target armed elements in the forests but will equally intensify efforts to degrade their financial and human support systems across the State.”

He added that all suspects arrested during the operation are currently being profiled to determine their level of involvement in criminal activities.

“Those found culpable will be made to face the full weight of the law,” he stressed.

The police chief also appealed to residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies.

He called on residents “to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies,” assuring that “all intelligence received will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality.”

The CP reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to public safety, warning that criminals would find no refuge in the state.

“The Edo State Police Command remains firm, proactive, and battle-ready to safeguard lives and property”.

“The warning is unequivocal: there will be no sanctuary for kidnappers or their collaborators anywhere in Edo State.” He said.
