FCT Police Command has announced a large-scale security deployment ahead of the 2026 Area Council Elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the operation is being carried out in collaboration with sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others.
In a statement issued on Friday, Adeh disclosed that security personnel have been strategically deployed across the Federal Capital Territory to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
She reminded residents that “movement will be restricted from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, February 21, 2026, except for essential service providers and election officials.”
The police spokesperson further urged residents to conduct themselves responsibly during the exercise, saying, “We encourage everyone to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and come out peacefully to exercise their civic responsibility.”
Adeh also called on members of the public to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, stressing, “If you see something, say something.” She provided the following emergency contact lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the command and its partners to safeguarding lives, property, and the integrity of the electoral process, adding, “Together, we will ensure a peaceful, free, and credible election.”
The FCT Police Command urged residents to cooperate fully with security personnel and adhere strictly to all guidelines to guarantee a smooth and violence-free election.
