A former PDP presidential aspirant, Chief Stanley Osifo, says the current 2027 politicking and ‘power grabbing coalition’ will not help solve numerous challenges facing the country, especially the masses.
Osifo, who vied for PDP’s presidential ticket in 2019, and now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday.
He was reacting to the politicking by the Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG) and opposition leaders plans to register a new political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), ahead of 2027 General Elections.
Osifo said: “Many of these people just have the desire to take over power not what can be done to solve our problems. Grabbing power is not the priority now if we really love this country.
“One realistic thing we should all do is not to take over power or fight for power but to collaborate with whoever that is there now to save lives and livelihood of the citizens.
“We must join hands together to resolve Nigeria’s interconnected issues that we are facing now. The focus of these leaders should be how to solve the current problems.
“Putting Nigeria’s development, welfare, and security on focus should be the priority. We should see how we can harness and synergise to make Nigeria great.”
He, however, said that alliances, alignment and coming together of politicians always characterised the electioneering period, which might not be in the interest of ordinary Nigerians.
According to him, governance is important for Nigerians right now, the issue of economy, security, health, education, food, water, infrastructure and others should be the focus now.
“We must ensure we deliver a sane society to Nigerians, with good welfare to all homes.
“Let us leave politicking till 2026. Let us pity Nigerians and solve their problems now,” Osifo added.
NAN reports that opposition leaders under the coalition movement on Friday applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register ADA ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The coalition led by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai and other opposition leaders are plotting to wrestle power from the ruling APC in 2027. (NAN)
