6 Brigade Troops neutralize 2 bandits, recover arms in Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA)/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), deployed at Sarkin Kudu in Ibi Local Government Area( LGA) of Taraba State, have successfully neutralised two suspected bandits during a well-coordinated clearance operation aimed at flushing out criminal elements threatening peace and security in the state.

Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, confirmed this in a statement issued to news on Tuesday in Jalingo.

Lt. Muhammad said troops acting on credible intelligence received from a reliable source on 18 May 2026 regarding the activities of suspected bandits at a hideout around Dooshima District in the Sarkin Kudu area of Ibi LGA, swiftly mobilised to the general area for a tactical raid operation.

He said the troops upon reaching the area, came in contact with the armed assailants, leading to a fierce exchange of fire with the criminals at the identified hideout.

“During the encounter, troops successfully neutralised two suspected bandits, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.

“Items recovered from the operation include: one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 1 locally fabricated pistol, 1 Android phone, 3 small mobile phones, 2 charm vests and other personal items”, he said.

He added that the recovered items are currently in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.

Commenting on the successful operations, The Commander, 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their courage, bold handling and swift response which he noted was in line with the current proactive drive of the Bde and is in pursuit of the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to flush out criminal elements and ensure lasting peace and security across Taraba State and its environs.

The Commander assured that the current reward and sanction system of the Comd would apply to the gallant soldiers involved in the raid operations.

He further reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against all forms of criminality and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies in the State.
