Delta State Police Command has arrested 95 suspected cult members and recovered five firearms during coordinated operations carried out across four local government areas of the state.
The arrests followed intelligence-led raids conducted on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in Asaba, Ika South, Ughelli South and Okpe Local Government Areas, as part of efforts by the police to tackle cult-related crimes and improve security in communities.
The Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the operations were carried out by security teams from the Department of Operations, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Command Anti-Cultism Unit (CACU).
According to Edafe, the operation was conducted following the directive of the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, to intensify the fight against cultism and related criminal activities across the state.
In Asaba, police operatives stormed a hotel along Abraka Road where suspected members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity (SVC), also known as Aro Bagger, were allegedly holding a cult anniversary gathering.
The raid led to the arrest of 67 suspects, including 55 males and 12 females.
Police said two pump-action guns, one locally fabricated cut-to-size gun, 10 live cartridges, five expended cartridges, 11 caps bearing suspected cult symbols and two branded cult jackets were recovered from the scene.
In another operation carried out in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, 15 suspects, comprising 14 men and one woman, were arrested over alleged links to the same confraternity.
Three other suspects were arrested in Jeremy community, Ughelli South Local Government Area, following intelligence reports about a suspected cult meeting in the area.
The police said some suspects escaped during the operation, but operatives recovered two locally made pistols, two live cartridges, two expended cartridges, two caps with suspected cult markings and suspected charms.
Similarly, 10 male suspects were arrested in Jeddo community, Okpe Local Government Area, for alleged involvement in cult-related activities.
Edafe said a total of five firearms, 12 live cartridges and seven expended cartridges were recovered during the operations.
He added that the suspects and recovered items remained in police custody as investigations continued to determine their level of involvement and possible links to other criminal activities.
