National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has called on party leaders to unite and reposition the party as a credible alternative to the ruling government, warning that Nigeria’s worsening insecurity demands urgent and decisive action.
Speaking at the party’s 2nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Wednesday, Mark said the gathering comes at a defining moment for both the ADC and the country.
“It is with great honour and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you all to this 2nd meeting of the National Executive Committee of our great party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” he said.
He commended party stakeholders for their resilience and loyalty, noting that their sacrifices continue to strengthen the party’s foundation.
“Your dedication, even in challenging times, continues to inspire confidence in the future of the ADC as a credible alternative for national leadership,” Mark stated.
The former Senate President said Nigerians are increasingly demanding a government that delivers justice, equity, and real service to the people.
“Nigerians across all walks of life are yearning for purposeful leadership, equity, justice, and a government that truly serves the people,” he said, adding that the moment carries both political and moral significance.
“The responsibility before us, therefore, is not just political—it is moral and historic.”
Mark urged party leaders to set aside personal interests and focus on strengthening internal unity and democratic values.
“Internal cohesion, respect for party structures, and adherence to democratic principles must remain our guiding pillars,” he stressed.
Highlighting the party’s roadmap, Mark said the ADC must intensify efforts to expand its grassroots presence and engage Nigerians across all divides.
“Our task is clear: to reposition the ADC as the foremost platform for national renewal,” he said.
He emphasized that unity within the party is critical to achieving this goal.
“Unity within our ranks is non-negotiable… we must therefore close ranks, deepen consultation, and reinforce confidence in our leadership and processes.”
Mark also appreciated state chairmen for embracing dialogue despite challenges, expressing optimism about the party’s future.
“Together, we can salvage Nigeria,” he added.
Addressing the country’s security crisis, Mark painted a grim picture of rising violence and kidnappings, describing them as widespread and deeply troubling.
“Nigeria is now bedeviled by unabating insecurity, kidnapping and violence of immense proportion. Unfortunately, these ills are now the new normal,” he said.
He did not hold back in his criticism of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The ruling APC has shown incompetence. They have shown that they are incapable of arresting the situation,” Mark declared.
He, however, assured Nigerians that the ADC is prepared to chart a different course.
“Our party, the ADC must rise up to the occasion to address these ills. We are prepared to do things differently and make Nigeria a better and safer society.”
Mark further urged members to embrace dialogue and partnerships with like-minded groups to strengthen the push for national recovery.
“We must also continue to work with like-minded individuals and groups who share our vision of rescuing our nation from its current challenges,” he said.
“The time for collaboration, constructive engagement, and strategic alignment is now.”
‘Victory is Assured’ — Mark
While acknowledging the challenges ahead, Mark expressed confidence in the party’s chances if it remains united and disciplined.
“The journey ahead may be demanding, but with unity, discipline, and commitment, victory is assured,” he said.
He concluded by urging members to approach deliberations with patriotism and a shared vision for a better Nigeria.
“Let our decisions reflect the aspirations of millions of Nigerians who look up to the ADC as a beacon of hope.”
