ADC Raises Alarm Over Alleged Move to Stop Convention at Rainbow Event Centre

African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that its planned national convention is facing last-minute pressure from authorities, but insists the event will proceed as scheduled.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the management of Rainbow Event Centre informed the party that it was being pressured by officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to deny the party access to the venue.

“After paying all the fees required, setting up for our convention tomorrow, the owner of Rainbow Event centre has just informed us that he has come under pressure from the FCDA and Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike that if he allows the ADC the use of his facilities, his licence will be revoked,” Abdullahi stated.

Despite the alleged pressure, Abdullahi maintained that the party had fulfilled all contractual obligations and would proceed with the convention.

“But we have already signed the contract with him. We will hold our convention tomorrow as planned at the Rainbow event centre,” he added.

The ADC spokesperson described the development as an attempt to intimidate the opposition, vowing that the party would not be deterred.

“We will not bow to this creeping tyranny. And definitely not to this petty tyrant,” Abdullahi declared.

He further expressed confidence in the party’s growth and political prospects, stating: “ADC is rising, Nigeria is rising.”

The development comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties intensifying efforts to reposition and strengthen their structures nationwide.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the office of the FCT Minister or the FCDA regarding the allegations.
