African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reacted to reports suggesting that a Federal High Court has removed some of its state chairmen, stating that it is reviewing the development and will respond accordingly.
In a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said its attention was drawn to media reports indicating that the court, presided over by Justice Joyce O. Abdulmalik, had sacked elected state chairmen who were yet to be formally inaugurated.
“The attention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been drawn to media reports that the Federal High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Joyce O. Abdulmalik, has sacked the elected, but yet to be inaugurated, State Chairmen of our party,” the statement read.
The party, however, reiterated its earlier position regarding the tenure of its current state executives, stressing that the recent congresses did not invalidate their mandates.
“It would be recalled that we issued a statement shortly after the congresses stating that the congresses did not truncate the tenure of the current State Executives, which will run their full course before the newly elected State Executives are inaugurated,” Abdullahi stated.
While acknowledging the reported court decision, the ADC leadership disclosed that it has initiated a legal review to determine its next line of action.
“Nevertheless, the leadership of the ADC has instructed its legal team to review the said judgment and advise the party appropriately,” the statement added.
The development comes amid internal party processes following recent congresses, with the ADC maintaining that due procedures regarding leadership transition at the state level will be followed in line with its constitution.
