Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has appealed to residents of the state to remain steadfast ahead of the August 15 governorship election, urging them to reject any attempt to return the state to what he described as an era of hardship and unpaid wages.
In a message shared on his official X account, Adeleke said the people of Osun have experienced significant progress under his administration and should not allow a return to policies that, according to him, subjected civil servants and families to untold suffering.
“We will not allow APC to take Osun back to the days when civil servants had to beg their neighbours for food,” the governor declared.
He urged residents to remain patient as the election approaches, expressing confidence that the people would make the right decision at the polls.
“I call on the good people of Osun State to brace up for just a few more days,” he said.
Adeleke accused those seeking to regain power of previously “weaponizing poverty” through the payment of half salaries and creating economic hardship for workers and their families.
“Those who once weaponized poverty by paying workers half salaries, leaving civil servants to struggle to feed their families, and denying our people access to basic necessities are desperate to return to inflict more pain.
“We must never go back to those dark days,” he added.
The governor also called on eligible voters to participate in the election and support the continuation of his administration’s programmes.
“On August 15, I urge every eligible voter to send a clear and resounding message that Osun has chosen the path of progress, compassion, and good governance.
“Together, we will protect the mandate of the people and keep Osun moving forward accordingly,” Adeleke stated.
