Residents of more than 40 communities and estates across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will experience a three-day disruption in electricity supply following a planned outage announced by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
The electricity distribution company said the temporary blackout is necessary to allow the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) relocate 33kV electricity towers at Kukwaba as part of ongoing road construction projects in Abuja.
According to AEDC, customers in the affected areas will experience a total power outage on Friday, while electricity supply will be rationed through load shedding on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25.
The planned outage will affect major residential and commercial areas, including Durumi, American International School, National Stadium, Airport Road, Lugbe FHA, Kapuwa Village, Kuchingoro, Karimajini, Zhidu Village, Peace Village, Sun City Estate, Urban Shelter, Brains and Hammer Estate, Aco Estate, Sabon Lugbe, Voice of Nigeria, Aleita and several other neighbouring communities.
AEDC appealed to residents and businesses to bear with the temporary inconvenience, explaining that the relocation of the transmission towers is required to support critical road infrastructure development within the Kukwaba corridor.
The company urged customers to make necessary arrangements during the period, assuring them that normal electricity supply would resume after the completion of the relocation exercise.
The planned outage comes at a time when many residents and businesses are already battling unstable electricity supply, with prolonged blackouts expected to increase dependence on generators and alternative sources of power.
