AFCON Setback: Abdul Samad Rabiu Still Honours $500,000 Pledge to Super Eagles

Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has praised the Super Eagles for their courage and commitment at the Africa Cup of Nations, assuring the team of Nigeria’s pride and his continued support despite their exit from the tournament.

In a heartfelt message shared via his official X handle, Rabiu commended the national team for their fighting spirit and determination, noting that their performance resonated deeply with Nigerians at home and abroad.

> “You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud.”

Acknowledging that football does not always reward effort with victory, the BUA chairman emphasised that the unity, passion and resilience displayed by the players were far more significant than the final result.

> “Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion, and unity you displayed are what truly matter. You left everything on the field, and that is worthy of celebration.”

Rabiu further announced that he would honour his earlier pledge to the team as a mark of appreciation for their dedication and the joy they brought to the nation throughout the competition.

> “As a token of appreciation for your remarkable journey and effort, I am still going ahead to fulfill the pledge of $500,000 USD. This is in recognition of your hard work, dedication, and the joy you have brought to our nation.”

Encouraging the players to remain optimistic about the future, the business mogul urged the Super Eagles to draw strength from the experience as they prepare for future challenges.

> “Keep your heads high, Super Eagles – the experience, lessons, and spirit will fuel even greater success next time. Nigeria will always be proud of you, and we believe in your future victories!”
