AFCON: Super Eagles earn $2.5m after bronze medal finish in Morocco

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have pocketed $2.5 million in prize money following their third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The West African giants secured the bronze medal after an impressive campaign that saw them finish among the continent’s top three teams, reaffirming Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had earlier announced a revised and significantly improved prize structure for the tournament, rewarding teams at every stage of the competition.

Under the AFCON 2025 prize money framework, teams earned the following amounts based on their final positions:

Fourth place in group stage: $500,000

Third place in group stage: $700,000

Quarter-finalists: $800,000

Fourth place overall: $1.3 million – Egypt

Third place (Bronze): $2.5 million – Nigeria

Runners-up: $4 million – Morocco

Champions: $10 million – Senegal

Senegal emerged as champions of AFCON 2025, taking home the tournament’s top prize of $10 million, while host nation Morocco finished as runners-up to claim $4 million. Egypt settled for fourth place with earnings of $1.3 million.

Nigeria’s bronze medal finish not only brought financial rewards but also national pride, as the Super Eagles bounced back strongly after a challenging group phase to end the tournament on a high note.

Football analysts say the increased prize money reflects CAF’s renewed commitment to strengthening African football, improving competitiveness and attracting greater investment into the sport across the continent.
