Nigeria is mourning the death of elder statesman and leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who died at the age of 100.

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa announced his passing in a condolence statement, describing the late nationalist as a rare leader whose life was defined by integrity, wisdom and selfless service to humanity.

The governor said Pa Fasoranti devoted decades of his life to the growth of Ondo State, the Yoruba nation and Nigeria, adding that his contributions would remain a lasting reference for generations to come.

He also expressed sympathy to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and all residents of Ondo State, saying the country had lost one of its most respected voices of reason and justice.

According to Aiyedatiwa, the late Afenifere leader stood firmly for democracy, fairness, good governance and national unity throughout his lifetime.

Pa Fasoranti was widely regarded as one of the most influential Yoruba leaders in Nigeria. As leader of Afenifere, he consistently spoke on national issues, advocated restructuring and defended democratic values during critical periods in the country’s history.
