The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has proposed to organise a mini-convention in August to fill the vacant positions of the National Chairman and Secretary.Recall that Adamu Abdullahi and Iyiola Omisore resigned as National Chairman and National Secretary on Sunday in dramatic circumstances.Speaking to Daily Sun, a member of the NWC disclosed that the likelihood of the acting National Chairman, Abubakar Kyari, making the ministerial list has necessitated the organisation of the elective mini-convention as soon as possible. The source also disclosed that the national leadership felt the organisation of the mini-convention to fill the vacant positions would facilitate the unfreezing of party accounts.“We have already started preparing for the mini-convention, and I can assure you that it will not be too long. We are looking at the possibility of holding it within one month, tentatively next week, August, if there is no reason to change the plans we are already making.“We have to organise the mini-convention as soon as possible because there is every likelihood that our acting chairman may cross over to the executive side. There shall be no vacuum that will make the party suffer.“But even if the acting chairman didn’t eventually cross over as anticipated, he cannot continue in acting capacity for too long. We don’t want to be like the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Committee that lasted from six months to years,” the source said.“You also know that our accounts have been frozen due to the leadership crisis we had and the resignation of two of the signatories. Yes, we are making arrangements to unfreeze the accounts, but we also know that having a substantive national leadership through the elective mini-convention will fast-track the process,” the source added.
