The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has used the Flamingos’ qualification for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final to criticise the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government, saying the team’s success has provided relief from the hardship facing Nigerians.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., the party congratulated the Flamingos for becoming the first African side to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The NDC said the team’s victories had brought smiles to millions of Nigerians who are battling hunger, poverty and economic difficulties.

“You did our country proud. Your victories have lifted Nigerians from the hunger, poverty and sadness that the ruinous policies of the ruling party have imposed on them,” the statement said.

The party praised the players for bouncing back from an opening 2-1 defeat to Poland to defeat DPR Korea, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil on their way to the final.

It described the 3-1 victory over Brazil as another historic achievement after earlier ending DPR Korea’s eight-year unbeaten run at the tournament.

The opposition party urged the Flamingos to remain focused and defeat Japan in Saturday’s final to crown their remarkable campaign.

According to the statement, Nigerians across political, ethnic and religious divides are united in support of the team.

“The NDC and Nigerians are fully behind you,” it added.

The party ended the statement with its campaign message: “A New Nigeria is Possible with NDC.”
