Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said Nigerians are still waiting for justice six years after the Lekki tollgate shooting.
In a post on his X account on Tuesday, Atiku said the APC-led government had failed to answer key questions about the incident and improve the lives of young Nigerians.
He wrote, “Six years after the Lekki shooting, Nigeria is still waiting for a clear answer to one devastating question: Who gave the order?”
Atiku also criticised President Bola Tinubu, saying his reaction after the incident did not show enough sympathy for the victims.
He said many families were still seeking justice, while many young Nigerians had lost confidence in the government.
The former vice president added that the rising cost of living had made life more difficult, noting that petrol selling at ₦1,405 per litre had increased the burden on Nigerians.
He shared the story of a young woman who reportedly resigned from her job because she could no longer afford transportation, quoting her as saying, “The pay no longer covers transport. Everything in Nigeria just dey increase in price. Feels like I’m working for Bolt guys.”
Atiku said his Economic Recovery Plan would reduce hardship by supporting local fuel refining, creating jobs, cutting government waste and helping workers and students.
He concluded, “Young Nigerians deserve the truth about Lekki. They deserve a government that protects life, and an economy that gives work a chance to lead somewhere.”
