Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to the recent defection of his son, Abba Abubakar, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abba formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election ahead of the 2027 general election.
He was officially received into the ruling party on Thursday evening in Abuja by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, alongside the APC National Vice Chairman (North East), Mustafa Salihu.
The move signals a strategic effort to mobilise grassroots backing for President Tinubu, particularly across the North East region.
In hus reaction, Atiku in a post on his X handle (@Atiku) on Thursday, said the decision of his son to join the APC is entirely personal.
He said: “In a democracy, such choices are neither unusual nor alarming, even when family and politics intersect.
“As a democrat, I do not coerce my own children in matters of conscience, and I certainly will not coerce Nigerians.
“What truly concerns me is the poor governance of the APC and the severe economic and social hardships it has imposed on our people.
“I remain resolute in working with like-minded patriots to restore good governance and offer Nigerians a credible alternative that brings relief, hope, and progress.
