Bayelsa takes lead on medals table at Niger Delta Sports Festival

Bayelsa and Delta are in a two horse race to determine the state that will win the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF).

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the medal table released on Monday morning by the Main Organising Committee in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, has Bayelsa leading the table with 36 gold, 20 silver and 12 bronze.

Second on the table is Delta with 35 gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze.

Team Rivers is third on the table with 17 gold, 11 silver and 17 bronze, while Edo is sitting fourth on the table with 12 gold, 28 silver and 29 bronze

Ondo State is fifth with seven gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze, and Akwa Ibom sits sixth with seven gold, 10 silver, 9 bronze, while Abia sitting seventh with five gold, 10 silver, and seven bronze.

Team Imo is eighth with three gold, 10 silver and 18 bronze, while Cross River is last on the log with three gold, four silver, 15 bronze medals.

Addressing some of the state athletes on the performance of Team Bayelsa, the State’s Commissioner for Sports Development, Daniel Igali, said he was excited with the performance of the athletes in Uyo.

Igali applauded the athletes’ efforts, adding that the state governor was impressed with how Bayelsa continued to raise the bar in sports development.

“On behalf of the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, I commend you for your stellar performances.

“You have made Bayelsa proud, once again stamping our authority as a true sports powerhouse in the Niger Delta.

“But while we celebrate these amazing feats, remember, the mission isn’t over yet. Stay focused. Keep the fire burning. We’re behind you every step of the way,” he said. (NAN)
