Benue Killings: President Tinubu Is right on state policing – Reno Omokri

President Bola Tinubu

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s call for state policing, describing it as the right solution to address insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in the wake of recent attacks in Benue State.

Omokri expressed his unequivocal support for the President’s proposal, stating, “President Tinubu’s declaration that state police is the solution to insecurity, such as the Benue attacks, is spot on. It is the right solution for the blight pollution.”

He urged key stakeholders, including the National Council of State, the National Economic Council, the National Assembly, and all State Assemblies, to accept and adopt the proposal.

According to Omokri, community policing will bring about security and stability to the grassroots. He commended President Tinubu for demonstrating leadership by coming up with workable solutions to the country’s security challenges, rather than just issuing condolences.

Omokri noted that the President’s statement, “The debate over state police is no longer theoretical. It is grounded in the daily fears and lived anxieties of Nigerians: farmers afraid to tend their fields, traders unsure of safe passage, and communities abandoned to self-help,” accurately captures the reality of the situation.

He called on all Nigerians to align with the idea of State Police, emphasizing that the current approach to security is not working and that a new approach is needed.

“We cannot continue doing the same things and expect the same results. We need a new approach, and the President has shown courage in defining and promoting that approach,” Omokri said.
