Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have killed 44 suspected terrorists and foiled an improvised explosive device (IED) attack during separate operations in Borno State and the Lake Chad region.

The military said the successful operations were carried out between Oct. 26 and Oct. 28 following credible intelligence and surveillance on terrorist movements.

The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

He said troops first engaged suspected terrorists at different locations in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State on Oct. 26.

According to him, a battle damage assessment showed that 28 terrorists were neutralised, while six others escaped with injuries.

Goni said the Maritime Component of Operation HADIN KAI, operating from the Naval Base in Baga, also carried out offensive operations against terrorist hideouts in the Lake Chad area on Oct. 28, killing eight terrorists and injuring 10 others.

He added that an air interdiction mission disrupted another group of suspected terrorists attempting to plant improvised explosive devices, killing eight operatives and destroying their vehicle, motorcycles and IED-making materials.

“These successes reflect the sustained pressure being exerted on terrorist networks through intelligence-led joint operations,” the statement said.

The military noted that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to weaken terrorist groups, limit their movement and improve security across the North-East.

“The Theatre Command urges members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies in support of ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the theatre,” Goni said.
