BREAKING: Air India flight crashes near Ahmedabad Airport with 242 persons onboard

An Air India plane carrying 242 people, including 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew, crashed near Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport shortly after takeoff on Thursday. The flight, AI171, was bound for London’s Gatwick Airport and operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

The Indian aviation minister, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, expressed shock and devastation over the incident.

“I am personally monitoring the situation and have directed all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift and coordinated action,” he said.

Rescue teams have been mobilized, and medical aid is being rushed to the site.

“My thoughts and prayers are with all those on board and their families,” the minister added.
