BREAKING: FG orders immediate closure of 47 unity colleges nationwide over rising security threats

Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa

Federal Government has ordered the temporary shutdown of 47 Federal Unity Colleges across the country in a swift response to escalating security threats, including the recent abduction of students in Maga, Kebbi State, and parts of Niger State.

The directive was issued through a circular with reference number FME/DSSE/GM/S.160/CII, signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajiya Binta Abdulkadir, and dispatched to all principals of Federal Government Colleges on Friday.

According to the circular, the decision followed “the recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent another security breach,” prompting the Minister of Education to approve the immediate closure of the affected schools.

Principals were instructed to enforce the directive without delay.

> “Principals of affected colleges are to ensure strict compliance,” the circular stated, ending with Abdulkadir’s note: “Please, accept the warm regards of the Honourable Minister.”

The government’s move comes amid heightened concern for student safety and intensified calls for stronger protection of schools across vulnerable regions.
