BREAKING: Governor Makinde declares intention to contest for 2027 Presidential election

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, signaling a major shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Makinde made the announcement on Thursday during a unity rally organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All People’s Movement (APM) at Mapo Hall in Ibadan.

At the event, the governor urged opposition politicians across the country to close ranks against what he described as the ruling APC’s attempt to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

According to him, the nation can no longer claim to practice genuine democracy if opposition parties are denied a fair and independent political environment.

“Is this the way we are to continue as a nation?” Governor Makinde said while lamenting the rising cost of living, insecurity, and increasing pressure on opposition voices.

He also encouraged Nigerians, especially eligible voters, to stop remaining passive in the political process, expressing confidence that collective participation could bring about a “historic reset” in 2027.

The rally attracted party loyalists, political associates, and stakeholders, coming just days after Bala Mohammed reportedly dumped the PDP for the APM and declared his ambition for the Bauchi South Senatorial seat.
