Bauchi was thrown into mourning on Thursday following the passing of one of its most respected spiritual voices, Sheikh Usman Dahiru Bauchi, who died at the age of 102.

The revered scholar, whose teachings shaped generations of Muslims across Nigeria and beyond, passed on in the early hours of November 27, 2025.

In a heartfelt condolence message, Governor Bala Mohammed, speaking for himself, his family, and the entire people of Bauchi State, described the Sheikh as an extraordinary pillar of Islamic learning and moral guidance.

According to the governor, “Dahiru Usman Bauchi was a towering figure in Islamic scholarship, a man of deep faith, humility, and wisdom. His lifetime was devoted to the propagation of Islam, the teaching of the Holy Qur’an, moral and spiritual upliftment of humanity.”

He highlighted the Sheikh’s enduring influence through decades of teaching and mentorship.

“Through his numerous schools and learning centres, he nurtured thousands of students who went on to memorize the Qur’an and spread Islamic knowledge across the African continent,” Governor Mohammed said.

Beyond his work as a teacher, the late scholar was also celebrated for his impact on Islamic thought and jurisprudence.

The governor noted that “the late Sheikh’s immense contributions to theology, Islamic jurisprudence, and history have left an indelible mark on the intellectual and spiritual landscape of our society. He was not only a custodian of religious knowledge but also a unifying voice for peace, tolerance, and understanding among Muslims and people of other faiths.”

Reflecting on the loss, Governor Mohammed added that although the departure of the centenarian scholar is painful, his life’s work remains a source of comfort and guidance.

He said, “as we mourn this monumental loss, we take solace in the fact that Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi lived a life fully dedicated to the service of Allah, humanity, and knowledge. His legacy will continue to illuminate the path of generations to come.”

The governor assured that the Bauchi State Government remains committed to preserving the Sheikh’s legacy by strengthening the institutions and values he championed. These include the promotion of Islamic education, moral discipline, and community development.

He concluded by praying that Almighty Allah forgive the scholar’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and grant his family, followers, and the entire Ummah the strength to bear the loss.
