U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that a breakthrough agreement between the United States and Iran has been finalized, describing the development as a major step toward easing tensions and restoring normal maritime operations in the Gulf region.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared that the long-awaited deal with Tehran was complete and hailed the outcome as a diplomatic success.
“Congratulations to all!” Trump wrote.
The U.S. president also announced sweeping measures aimed at reopening critical international shipping routes, saying he had ordered an end to restrictions affecting the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said he now “fully authorise the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorise the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade.
“Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”
The announcement is expected to have significant implications for global energy markets, given the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a substantial portion of the world’s oil supply passes.
Shortly after Trump’s statement, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that an agreement between Washington and Tehran is now in place and revealed that a formal signing ceremony has been scheduled.
According to Sharif, representatives of both countries are expected to officially sign the accord on June 19 in Switzerland, marking the culmination of diplomatic efforts that have drawn international attention.
