Football enthusiasts in Aba, Abia, have advised the Home-based Super Eagles to give their best to Sunday’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying match against Black Galaxies of Ghana.
A cross-section of football fans, who spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aba on Saturday, said “the team has what it takes” to defeat Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium and make the return leg in Nigeria a formality.
NAN reports that CHAN is a competition set aside by CAF for home-grown players and Home-based Eagles of Nigeria will on Sunday file out against Ghana in their soil in the first leg of their qualifier.
An Enyimba FC supporter, Uchenna Madukwe, said the current Super Eagles team B is made up of the best legs in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League.
Madukwe urged the players to be good ambassadors of the country and never let any antic from the opponents to deter them from “finishing the assignment” in Ghana.
“Left for me, the coaches should make sure that the team defend and attack well because the best way to defend is to attack the opponent,” he said.
Another Enyimba FC fan, Ndudim Isaac, called on the players to play their normal game and not succumb to pressure, pointing out that the team they are going to meet in Ghana are players in their category.
“The coach has assembled the best players in each position from our rich league and I will want the players to show that on the continental stage by defeating Ghana in their home soil
“Just be focused, read the game well and play with determination.
“Nigeria is a household name in African football and we need to maintain that in all categories of the game,” Isaac said.
An Abia Warriors’ fan, Agata Udemba, expressed optimism that Eagles team B will soar higher over Ghana.
“I am solidly behind this team to do well in Accra and finish the business at home in Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Dec. 28.
The winner on aggregate picks a ticket to the Eighth African Nations Championship taking place in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda from Feb. 1 to Feb. 28, 2025. (NAN)
