The Labour Party has announced plans to expel its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his continued association with a political coalition formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
During an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, Labour Party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi stated that Obi’s engagement with the opposition coalition while still identifying as a party member was unconstitutional. “We are convening a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting where he [Obi] will be expelled,” Arabambi declared.
“It is unconstitutional to belong to two political groups at once. They have lured him away, and there he will remain.” Arabambi emphasized that the NEC would recommend Obi’s expulsion, which would then be ratified at the party’s national convention, in line with its constitution.
