COAS to Fresh Troops: Take Battle to Terrorists, Uphold Military Discipline

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged newly trained soldiers of the 90 Regular Recruit Intake to be decisive against terrorists and other criminal elements threatening the country while maintaining professionalism and respect for human rights.

Shaibu gave the charge on Saturday during the Passing Out Parade of the recruits at Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Addressing the fresh soldiers, the Army Chief said they would soon join military operations across different parts of the country and must be ready to confront security threats wherever they arise.

He noted that the recruits had undergone intensive military training, including Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations, and were now prepared for the task ahead.

Shaibu said the Nigerian Army remains committed to denying terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups any safe haven, but stressed that all operations must be conducted in line with the Rules of Engagement and the Law of Armed Conflict.

According to him, Nigerians expect the new soldiers to demonstrate discipline, courage, operational excellence and loyalty to the Constitution as they begin their careers in service.

The COAS also warned against the misuse of social media, cautioning that unprofessional online conduct and the unauthorised disclosure of information could compromise operational security and undermine efforts to tackle insecurity.

He further acknowledged the continued support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in strengthening the capacity of the Armed Forces, noting that investments in training, welfare and equipment were helping to improve military effectiveness.

Reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, Shaibu said the newly inducted soldiers would play an important role in ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace and stability across the country.

The Army Chief spoke as 90 Regular Recruit Intake soldiers formally passed out from training and prepared for deployment to various units of the Nigerian Army, according to a statement issued by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations.
