In a drive to reposition the party, the Action People Party (APP) has held its National Convention on 18th November, 2023 at the party’s National headquarters in Abuja.
The party believes that a new Nigeria is possible as exemplified in its manifesto which is national-oriented and with the Nigerian people in its core interest. APP has continued to champion its agenda of ideological reawakening of the people as a veritable means towards ensuring an inclusive party politics driven by the people themselves. This is in contra-distinction to the pervading god-fatherism in politics which is holding sway in many other political parties, where one person sees himself as a godfather and lords over the people.
At its National Convention which was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, members of the National Executive Committee of the party were elected by the delegates including the Constitutional lawyer, Ezenwa Ibegbunam, who emerged as the National Legal Adviser of the party.
Ezenwa Ibegbunam, as a consummate lawyer is expected to bring on board his cognate experience in diverse fields of law towards repositioning the party’s participation in the electoral process in Nigeria. His emergence did not come as surprise in view of his longstanding engagements for the party in various matters relating to the constitutional interpretations by the Court and issues arising from elections. He has successfully represented the party on diverse litigations bothering on issue of national importance.
The National Convention is seen by observers as a major strategic move by the party to re-energies its ranks ahead of coming elections in the country. This is a pointer to the fact that the APP may be aiming for major elective positions in future elections in Nigeria.
