Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Portugal eased to a 5–0 win over Uzbekistan at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a result that saw him draw level with Eusebioos long-standing record of nine World Cup goals for Portugal.
He opened the scoring in the 6th minute after João Cancelo broke down the right and picked him out for a simple finish. It was another landmark moment in his career, as he became the first player to score in six different World Cup editions.
Portugal doubled their lead in the 17th minute when Nuno Mendes curled in a fine free-kick for his first World Cup goal. Ronaldo struck again in the 39th minute, finishing off a pass from Bruno Fernandes to give Portugal full control before the break.
Uzbekistan were undone again in the 60th minute when Abdukodir Khusanov turned the ball into his own net under pressure, before Rafael Leão completed the scoring in the 87th minute after being played through by Nelson Semedo.
The result ensured Ronaldo moved level with Eusébio as Portugal’s joint top scorer in World Cup history, while also edging further in his chase of the 1,000-goal milestone. He was later named Man of the Match.
Portugal dictated the game from start to finish, with Bruno Fernandes and Joao Cancelo key in build-up play, while Nuno Mendes marked his first World Cup goal with a standout performance.
