The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that six soldiers were killed in action during an attack by Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military base in Sabon Gari village, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State ¹.
The DHQ in a statement on Wednesday, said the attack occurred on January 4, 2025, when ISWAP terrorists, riding on motorcycles and gun trucks, engaged troops in a firefight. The terrorists had attempted to surprise the troops and retaliate against the recent killing of their commander and combatants.
However, the troops were able to foil the attack, and with the help of a reinforcement team, they were able to overpower the terrorists. Unfortunately, six personnel were killed in action, and their names have been withheld pending notification of their next of kin.
The DHQ also reported that 34 terrorists were killed, and 23 AK-47 rifles, over 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and other weapons were recovered.
According to the statement, the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI conducted air interdiction on the fleeing terrorists, resulting in the elimination of several terrorists and the recovery of weapons.
The statement also.reiterated the Armed Forces’ commitment to ending insurgency and terrorism in the nation, stating that they are “profoundly conscious” of their role and responsibility in this regard.
