Ebola Fund: ADC Asks Tinubu, APC to Account for ₦10bn Emergency Allocation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has challenged President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to explain the status of the ₦10 billion reportedly approved for Ebola emergency preparedness.

The party’s Director of Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, said Nigerians deserve full transparency over the fund and accused the APC of avoiding critical questions by focusing on political attacks.

Shaibu recalled that the Presidency announced on June 9 that Tinubu ordered the immediate release of ₦10 billion for Ebola preparedness, yet the APC recently claimed the money had remained untouched despite a confirmed Ebola case in Abuja.

He questioned whether the money was actually released and demanded that the government publish the release documents, account records and expenditure reports linked to the Ebola response.

Shaibu also asked the government to explain when Ebola was first suspected, when health authorities were informed, when laboratory testing was ordered and when contact tracing began.

He urged the Federal Government to publish the surveillance timeline, identify the agency that first raised the alert and explain the actions taken after the patient reportedly developed symptoms.

The ADC spokesman said the 44 identified contacts should be protected while health workers handling the case should receive adequate support instead of political distractions.

He added that asking questions about government preparedness should not be interpreted as an attack on frontline medical personnel.

Shaibu further called on the government to disclose any proposed public health measures that could affect political campaigns or the 2027 general election, insisting such decisions must be guided by medical advice rather than politics.

The ADC said the contradiction between the Presidency’s announcement that ₦10 billion had been released and the APC’s claim that the fund remained untouched must be resolved through official records.

He concluded by urging the Tinubu administration to reveal the whereabouts of the money, explain the Ebola response timeline, protect health workers, trace every contact and provide Nigerians with clear answers.
