Education Nigeria’s best investment, says Obi as he donates ₦30m to Peter University

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has continued his advocacy for education with a ₦30 million donation to Peter University in Achina/Onneh, Anambra State, aimed at supporting the institution’s academic growth and development.

The former governor disclosed this in a statement shared after visiting the university on March 6, noting that the gesture forms part of his ongoing efforts to strengthen institutions that nurture young minds and prepare them for national development.

According to him, the visit came shortly after a similar intervention at Dominican University Ibadan in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he also donated ₦30 million to support educational advancement.

“A few weeks ago, I visited Dominican University in Ibadan, Oyo State, where I donated ₦30 million to support their educational development. Yesterday, March 6th, I was at Peter University in Achina/Onneh, continuing my commitment to support institutions dedicated to shaping the minds and futures of our young people,” Obi said.

He added that during the visit to Peter University, he presented another ₦30 million to assist the institution in its growth and academic development.

“On that occasion, I also donated another ₦30 million to Peter University to aid its growth and academic development,” he stated.

Obi stressed that education remains one of the most powerful tools for national transformation, describing it as a long-term investment capable of strengthening societies and preparing nations for future challenges.

“For me, education is one of the most enduring investments that any society can make. It not only opens doors for individuals but also strengthens communities and prepares nations for the challenges of tomorrow,” he said.

He further explained that he considers it a privilege to support institutions committed to learning, character building and service to humanity whenever the opportunity arises.

“Whenever the opportunity presents itself, I consider it a privilege to contribute, even in a modest way, to institutions devoted to learning, character formation, and service to humanity,” Obi noted.

The former governor also emphasised that his visit was not merely symbolic but a reaffirmation of his belief in the role universities play in shaping responsible citizens.

“My visit was not merely ceremonial; it was an affirmation of my belief that universities should remain centers where young men and women are inspired to dream beyond their immediate circumstances and see themselves as citizens of a wider world,” he added.

Obi concluded his message with his signature optimism about the country’s future, stating: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
