Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched a full investigation into serious allegations of extortion made by Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.

The hip-hop artist has accused EFCC operatives of extorting a staggering sum of N10,000,000 (Ten Million Naira) from him before his release during a recent arrest.

In a statement issued on Saturday via the commission’s X handle, the EFCC expressed its deep concern over the allegation, describing it as a matter that would be taken with the utmost seriousness. Oladips, who was detained alongside suspected internet fraudsters, claims that the money was extorted before he was set free.

“The Commission views with great seriousness the allegation made by Mr. Oladips.

“We have reviewed his claims and have begun a thorough investigation into the matter,” the EFCC said.

As part of the investigation process, the EFCC revealed that officers involved in Oladips’ case have been summoned to the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters for questioning.

These officers have also been temporarily relieved of their duties pending the conclusion of the probe.

The EFCC emphasized its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and assured the public that any staff found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action.

However, the Commission also warned that if the allegations are proven to be false or intended to tarnish the EFCC’s reputation, there will be serious repercussions.

“We take issues of integrity very seriously, and any attempt to malign the image of the Commission will not be tolerated.

“We call on the public to remain patient as we conduct a thorough investigation and assure them of our continued commitment to fighting corruption and financial crimes,” the EFCC statement added.

The Commission has urged the public to await the outcome of the ongoing investigation, which is expected to clarify the details surrounding the allegations.

In the meantime, the EFCC continues its tireless work in addressing corruption and economic crime across Nigeria.
