Jude Bellingham continues to produce when England need him most, with the midfielder making history during the Three Lions’ World Cup quarterfinal against Norway.
Bellingham’s goal took his tally to six goals and one assist in six matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, underlining his status as England’s standout performer at the tournament.
The strike also saw him become the highest-scoring English player from open play in a single FIFA World Cup, surpassing every striker to have represented the Three Lions on football’s biggest stage.
Time and again, England’s biggest moments in this World Cup have carried Bellingham’s signature. Whether arriving late in the box or producing when the pressure is highest, the 23 year old has emerged as the heartbeat of Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Norway, however, ensured the night was not all about England’s record breaker.
While Erling Haaland was largely kept under wraps for much of the contest, the Norwegians still found a way through as Andreas Schjelderup got on the scoresheet, becoming the first player to breach England’s defence in the knockout rounds of the tournament.
It was a reminder that Norway’s impressive run to the quarterfinals has been built on far more than Haaland’s goals alone. Even against one of the tournament favourites, they showed resilience, quality and the belief that has carried them this far.
But once again, it was Bellingham who owned the biggest moment. On a night when records tumbled and England edged closer to the World Cup’s final four, the midfielder added another chapter to what is rapidly becoming one of the finest individual tournaments by an English player.
