President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday evening received Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, and two senators — Agom Jarigbe of Cross River North and Kaila Samaila Dahuwa of Bauchi North — at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The visit came shortly after Senators Jarigbe and Dahuwa formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that was officially announced earlier on the floor of the Senate.
Leading the lawmakers to the Villa, Senate President Godswill Akpabio said their decision to join the APC was driven by “national interest” and a commitment to support President Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking after the meeting, Senator Agom Jarigbe explained his defection, saying:
> “I joined the APC because President Tinubu is doing well, and I want to come in and support him.”
Senator Dahuwa also expressed confidence in the President’s leadership, noting that the government’s policies are “laying a solid foundation for economic stability and inclusive development.”
Earlier in the day, Governor Peter Mbah confirmed his own meeting with President Tinubu in a post via his official X handle. The Enugu governor described the engagement as constructive and focused on strengthening collaboration between the state and the federal government.
“Today, I had the honour of meeting with His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the State House, Abuja,” Mbah wrote.
“We discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between Enugu State and the Federal Government to deliver greater prosperity for our people. Enugu remains fully committed to playing its part in building a stronger, united, and more prosperous Nigeria.”
Governor Mbah concluded his post with his familiar slogan: “Tomorrow is Here.”
The meeting underscores the growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as more key figures from opposition parties continue to cross over to the APC, pledging support for President Tinubu’s reform agenda.
