FIFA cancels ‘free’ World Cup tickets to fans

FIFA has cancelled World Cup tickets issued to about 60 fans after a website error mistakenly processed some purchases for free.

According to ESPN, the glitch occurred on FIFA’s official ticketing platform during checkout, allowing a small number of users to complete transactions without payment.

The football governing body later moved to reverse the error, cancelling the affected tickets and notifying the impacted fans that they would need to pay the correct prices if they wish to retain their seats.

The incident has again raised questions around the stability of FIFA’s ticketing system as preparations continue for the expanded 2026 World Cup.

FIFA said it regrets the inconvenience caused by the technical fault.
