Fire service contains tanker fire incident at Rain Oil Filing station in Gombe

Federal Fire Service (FFS), Gombe State Command, has successfully contained a fire incident involving a fuel tanker that caught fire while off-loading diesel at Rain Oil Filling Station, Tumfure, Gombe State.

National PRO / Head, Corporate Services, Federal Fire Service, National Headquarters, DCF P.O. Abraham, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.

“Upon receipt of a distress call, firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene.

“Through prompt and professional intervention, the inferno was effectively brought under control, preventing the tanker from being completely engulfed and averting what could have resulted in a major disaster”, DCF Abraham said.

He said the affected location is a highly sensitive commercial environment, being in close proximity to multiple filling stations, business hubs and the NNPC Depot.

DCF Abraham said the swift response of the Service prevented a potential chain reaction and safeguarded properties estimated at over Five Hundred Million Naira (₦500,000,000).

“No loss of life was recorded in the incident”, he said.

The Federal Fire Service spokesman, reiterated the service’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and urges operators of petroleum facilities to strictly adhere to safety standards, particularly during product discharge operations.

“The service also appreciated the officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Tumfure Division, and the Department of State Services (DSS) for providing security cover that enabled firefighters to effectively discharge their duties”, he said.
