Nigeria’s Flying Eagles booked their place in the semi-finals of the WAFU B U20 Championship with a convincing 3-0 win over Togo on Friday.
It was a tale of two halves. Togo frustrated Nigeria before the break, but the Flying Eagles returned from the dressing room looking sharper and more direct, taking control of the game with three second-half goals.
The result means Aliyu Zubairu’s side finished the group stage with a perfect six points from two matches, making it two wins from two ahead of the knockout rounds.
Beyond the scoreline, the victory showed a side willing to stay patient when things were not going their way. Instead of forcing the game in the opening half, the Flying Eagles waited for their moment and made it count after the restart.
Nigeria will now head into the semi-finals full of confidence as they continue their bid for WAFU B honours and a place at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
