Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic passing of Miss Ruth Otabor, a victim of a fatal crash involving a Dangote truck and a commercial motorcycle on August 11, 2025, near the Sports Complex of Auchi Polytechnic along Auchi Road, Edo State.
Despite medical efforts, Miss Otabor succumbed to her injuries, prompting heartfelt condolences from the FRSC to her family, the Students Union, and the Auchi Polytechnic community.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, speaking on behalf of the FRSC’s management and staff, described the incident as a regrettable loss and prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul.
“This tragic incident serves as a sober reminder of the need for collective responsibility,” Mohammed stated, emphasizing the Corps’ unwavering resolve to enhance road safety across Nigeria.
In response to the crash, the FRSC swiftly engaged key stakeholders to prevent future occurrences.
The Corps convened a meeting with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to address concerns and outline ongoing road safety initiatives. Additionally, the FRSC has intensified collaborations with major fleet operators, including Dangote and BUA, through structured driver training and recertification programs aimed at improving road safety standards.
The FRSC’s proactive measures reflect its commitment to creating safer road environments nationwide. Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, reiterated the agency’s dedication to strengthening enforcement, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement to avert similar tragedies.
“The FRSC remains steadfast in its mandate to safeguard lives on Nigerian roads,” he affirmed.
As the nation mourns Miss Otabor, the FRSC’s renewed efforts offer hope for a future with safer roads, driven by collective action and robust safety initiatives.
The Corps once again extended its deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, pledging to honor Miss Otabor’s memory through continued dedication to road safety.
