Fulani herdsmen invade farmland in Benue, kill farmer

Gunmen believed to be herdsmen have butchered a farmer on his farm along Ubali/ Gbajor villages, Nzorov council ward of Benue State.

This sad incident took place on Thursday when a farmer, Terlumun Mpev, fondly called Alhaji learnt that herdsmen were destroying his guinea corn farm with their herds of cattle.

The farmer hurriedly went to the farm with his son, Sooner Mpev and pleaded with the herders to allow him harvest the corn before the cattle would feed on the chaffs.

His plea instead angered the herders, who descended on him with machetes and butchered him but his son, Scooter who was faster in running escaped to inform the family members who went and took the corpse for instant burial.

According to him, the people of Nzorov community were living in fears even as farmers were also afraid of going to farm for fear of similar attack.

He appealed to the Benue State Government to intensify efforts to protect the people of the state to enable them continue with their farm activities.

The informant equally decried the influx of herdsmen in Gbajimba town in the last few days, saying there was no clear reason as to why the herders would be coming in large numbers.

He noted that if not checked the way the herders were coming to the town, their number alone would soon out umber the residents of the town.

Mr. Godwin Agbadu, who spoke out against the influx of herders in Gbajimba, called on security agencies to take action and curb the situation. He wants residents to feel safe and secure, not living in constant fear
