Rasmus Højlund has officially completed a permanent transfer to Napoli, with the Italian side activating the obligation-to-buy clause in his loan agreement with Manchester United.
The deal is worth around €44 million, following an initial €6 million loan fee paid last summer, bringing the total package close to €50 million.
The clause was triggered after Napoli met the required conditions attached to the agreement, turning what was initially a temporary move into a permanent stay in Italy.
Højlund, who joined Manchester United from Atalanta in 2023 with big expectations, leaves after scoring 26 goals in 95 appearances across all competitions for the club. His first season showed real promise, particularly in Europe where he hit 5 Champions League goals and finished the campaign with 16 goals overall. However, his second season proved more difficult, with just 10 goals in all competitions and a noticeable dip in league consistency.
Despite flashes of his potential, he struggled to fully settle into a steady rhythm in the Premier League, and United’s ongoing attacking reshuffle ultimately opened the door for his departure.
The deal also offers Manchester United some relief on their wage structure and squad planning as they continue reshaping their attack. For Napoli, Højlund is viewed as a key long-term piece in their project following Champions League qualification.
The Danish striker is expected to continue with the squad ahead of pre-season preparations as Napoli plan around him going forward.
