ICPC detains El-Rufai over alleged ₦580bn financial misconduct

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has detained former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai for questioning over alleged financial misconduct amounting to more than ₦580 billion during his eight years in office.

El-Rufai was invited by the anti-graft agency on February 18, 2026, and is being held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja for further interrogation.

According to reports, the former governor arrived voluntarily but was not released after preliminary questioning.

His media team has described the detention as politically motivated, while the ICPC maintains that its actions are based on intelligence findings and forensic reviews of Kaduna State audit reports and whistleblower submissions.

The development comes amid ongoing anti-corruption investigations involving former public officials.
