The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun moves to resolve the omission of some of its governorship candidates from the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party said it was in contact with the electoral body to address the issue and ensure that the matter is handled according to the law and established electoral procedures.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, in a statement, said the party was taking the development seriously and working towards finding a peaceful solution.
“The party is already engaging the Independent National Electoral Commission to resolve the omission of some of its candidates from the Commission’s final list of governorship candidates for the 2027 elections,” Mohammed said.
The party appealed to the affected candidates, its members and supporters to remain calm while the engagement with INEC continues.
It said the discussions were aimed at resolving the matter within the framework of the electoral guidelines.
The issue followed the release of INEC’s final list of governorship candidates for the 2027 elections, which was published on the commission’s official website.
The list showed 13 candidates in Ogun State and 16 candidates in Gombe State, but no PDP governorship candidate was included in either state.
Those affected by the omission include Ladi Adebutu, the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State, and former Minister Isa Ali Pantami, who is associated with the party’s contest in Gombe State.
The development has attracted attention as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The PDP maintained that it would continue to pursue the matter through appropriate channels to protect the rights of its candidates and ensure compliance with electoral rules.
