INEC promotes 2,339 senior staff

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced the promotion of 2,339 senior staff members as part of its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise.

The Commission, in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja said, the initiative underscores its dedication to staff development, ensuring institutional memory and stability as it prepares for future electoral responsibilities.

The approvals, which were granted during the Commission’s regular meeting held on Thursday, 26th February 2026, had 45 Deputy Directors promoted to the position of Directors, GL 16–17.

Among these, 18 will continue in active service, while 27 are due to proceed on retirement shortly following their promotion, in accordance with established public service regulations.
A total of 91 Assistant Directors have been elevated to Deputy Directors, while 82 Chief Officers, Grade Level 14–15, were advanced to the rank of Assistant Directors.

Others also promoted were 2,121 officers across the Commission’s various departments also received promotions in the category of Intermediate Level, GL 07–13.

The Commission confirmed that the comprehensive exercise was carried out in strict compliance with its established guidelines and extant public service rules.

INEC stated that the promotions reflect its commitment to rewarding merit, dedication, and long service, while simultaneously reinforcing leadership capacity across its structures.

INEC said the promotion was particularly critical as the Commission intensifies preparations for forthcoming electoral activities.

The Commission extended its congratulations to all newly promoted officers and charged them to further demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and impartiality in the discharge of their duties.
