The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has inaugurated a logistics committee to strengthen preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The committee, chaired by National Electoral Commissioner, retired Rear Admiral Jamila Abubakar-Sadiq, will oversee the safe and timely movement of election materials nationwide.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said logistics remains one of the most important pillars of a successful election.

He said the committee will work with security agencies, the military, transport organisations and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.

According to him, the committee will assess logistics needs, identify gaps and prepare plans for storing, distributing and retrieving election materials.

Amupitan stressed that no Nigerian should be denied the right to vote because election materials arrived late.

Abubakar-Sadiq said the committee would focus on air, land and maritime transportation, especially in difficult and security-challenged areas.

She added that the Central Bank of Nigeria will receive, store and distribute sensitive election materials through its nationwide branches.

The committee will also recommend practical solutions and timelines to improve election logistics before the 2027 polls.

The inauguration brought together security agencies, transport unions and key government institutions as INEC begins early preparations for a credible and hitch-free general election.
