Kano State Police Command has confirmed that local hunters killed two suspected bandits and recovered a N10 million ransom after rescuing the proceeds from kidnappers in Falgore Forest, Doguwa Local Government Area.
The operation came shortly after a kidnapped victim, 45-year-old Kabiru Aliyu, regained his freedom unharmed following the payment of the ransom by his family.
Police spokesman, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said the victim was released on October 17, 2026, after the kidnappers collected the N10 million ransom.
According to the statement, local hunters, popularly known as Yan Bula, tracked the suspected bandits as they made their way back to their hideout in Falgore Forest.
The hunters intercepted the suspects and engaged them, killing two of the suspected bandits during the operation.
Police said one other suspect escaped with gunshot injuries, while the entire N10 million ransom was recovered intact.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the courage and swift action of the local hunters, describing their efforts as a major contribution to the fight against kidnapping in the state.
He directed security personnel to intensify the manhunt for the fleeing suspect and recover any weapons still in his possession.
The police said the rescued victim was taken for medical examination before he was reunited with his family.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with local security groups and residents to tackle kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes across Kano State.
