The head of Woro village in Kwara State, Umar Salihu, has alleged that security forces arrived nearly 10 hours after t%rrorists attacked his community, leaving many residents dead and homes destroyed.
Speaking on ARISE News, Salihu said the att+ck began around 5p.m., and distress calls were immediately made to security agencies. However, soldiers reportedly did not arrive until about 3a.m. the next day, after the att+ckers had fled.
“I called around 5p.m., but they only came at about 3a.m. That is about 10 hours,” he said. According to him, no confrontation occurred because the assailants had already escaped. He also stated that there was no air support during the incident, adding that no munitions were deployed to stop the attackers.
Salihu further claimed that he had earlier reported a threatl etter to security agencies, raising concerns that sensitive intelligence may have been compromised. He explained that the community had been left exposed after soldiers previously stationed in the area were withdrawn following an earlier att+ck on the base.
“About three to five months ago, they att+cked the soldiers. Since then, they were evacuated. We have no security presence here,” he said, adding that this made the village vulnerable.
The village head identified the att+ckers as members of the Mamuda terrorist group, saying the assault followed the community’s rejection of their ideology. “Our people refused to accept their ideology, and that made them angry,” he said.
He also dismissed claims that the killings were religiously motivated, noting that most of the victims were Muslims. Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters said troops were promptly deployed to secure the area through patrols and surveillance, while expressing shock over the attack.
