Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has fixed Oct. 16 for its chairmanship primaries ahead of the Nov. 2, local councils elections in the state.

The State APC Chairman, Mr Aliyu Bello, announced this at the party’s expanded stakeholders meeting on Monday in Lafia.

He also said the party’s councillorship primaries would hold on Oct. 14 to elect their flag bearers for the 147 electoral wards across the state.

Bello said that the party had pegged its nomination form for the chairmanship position at N5 million and N1million for expression of interest, while that of councillor would be N1.5 million with N400,000 for expression of interest respectively.

He added that the screening of aspirants would hold from Oct. 7 to Oct.10, while appeals arising from the primaries would be addressed on October 17.

Bello said that names of successful candidates would be submitted to the state electoral on Oct. 18.

The chairman said that the party had decided to prioritise the adoption of consensus candidates for all positions in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution.

He, therefore, directed stakeholders from the various electoral wards and LGAs to engage with aspirants and forward three names for chairmanship in each area for consideration.

“In an event where the consensus could not be achieved, the party will conduct either direct or indirect primaries in the affected areas,” he said.

In his remarks, Gov. Abdullahi Sule appreciated the stakeholders for attending the meeting to strategise on how to win the forthcoming LG election.

The governor also corroborated the APC chairman’s position on the need for consensus candidates and added that it was constitutional.

Sule advised the aspirants to put the interest of the party above all other interests and know that leadership comes from God.

He urged them to exhibit maturity and desist from anything that would destabilise the party.

The meeting had in attendance Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, former National Chairman of APC, Sen. Umaru Al-Makura, former governor, Mr Danladi Jatau, Speaker of the House of Assembly, other and members.

Also at the meeting were National Assembly members of the party, former elected and appointed members of the party, and party officials from the state, local government and electoral wards. (NAN).
