The Cross River chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to ensure that every votes to be cast in Saturday Local Government elections in the state counts.
The party said this at a campaign rally for their candidates in Cross River North and Central Senatorial District, Ogoja Local Government Area on Thursday.
The state chairman of the party, Mr Venatius Ikem, while addressing the supporters appealed to them to come out enmass to cast their votes without fear.
While noting that the party’s candidates stand a better chance of wining, he enjoined the candidates to regard the party’s mandate as sacrosanct.
He said it was unfortunate that some “unstable” politicians had in the past absconded to other parties after election victories.
According to him, it is not unknown to the parry and the majority of the people that the ruling party have failed to keep their campaign promises.
“In adding to the economic hardship in the country, APC in Cross River has not done anything to warrant our votes against.
“Come Saturday, we will start showing them the way out because they have failed to provided the needed governance to our people.
“We must all come out in our number to make this possible and on our part, we will make you votes count”, Ikem said.
The member representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, House of Representatives, Mr Godwin Ofiono, assured that modalities there would be to guide against electoral malpractice.
He said the Local Government election- was people oriented, pointing out that Cross River North and the entire state was a PDP strong hold.
He warned against violence during the election and appealed for a level playing ground.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that flags were presented to the party’s candidates from the eleven Local Government Areas that make up the two senatorial districts.
Ten political parties will be participating in the poll scheduled for Saturday. (NAN)
